Founded in 1963 Esbjerg Holger Christiansen A/S has grown from being a regional wholesaler to an international producer and supplier of auto electrical components. Today the group employs more than 900 people and is now a BOSCH group company.
In 2004 Holger Christiansen made a strategic decision and built a warehouse centrally placed in the company. This warehouse was specifically designed to house Double Tornado machines.
Since then Holger Christiansen has continued to invest in Double Tornado storage machines. After the first six machines were installed in 2004 they installed a further three in 2007.
Solution:
The warehouse of 400 m2 now houses nine Double Tornados, with space for another three. The nine machines contain the equivalent of 6750 m2 conventional picking storage. The machines have liberated 300 pallet places.
In average an operator carries out 120 picks per hour, but with certain order types this can reach 170-190 picks per hour. By comparison manual picking can reach a maximum of only 30-40 picks per hour. This means that the Double Tornado machines perform at 3 or 4 times the manual picking rate. Other benefits are better ergonomics with less walking distances and error picking reduced to 0.2%.
